The Tarot Card Question ReadingThe question reading is a reading you do for yourself. You ask a personal question and then spread the cards to access guidance and information. Working step-by-step is the best way to do tarot work. This helps you to feel more grounded during the process. Here are some ideas for doing a question reading. Start by setting the right mood for the question reading. Make sure the room you are in is calm and peaceful. Sit down on the floor or at a table. Leave enough space for the spread. The question you wish to ask should be written on a piece of paper and kept with you along with your tarot deck. The reading will take from thirty to forty minutes, initially. Do some relaxation exercises before the question reading if you are tense - to calm your mind. Do not dwell on worries during this time. Ground your thoughts and feelings in the moment and don’t let your mind stray! Breathe deeply and relax your body. Once you are calm and peaceful hold the cards in one hand and place the other over them. At this point you should bring the cards into your personal energy space. This stage of the question reading is the ideal time to say a prayer, affirmation, state your feelings or greet your Inner Guide. Do this out loud. Now you are ready to ask your question. Read it from your piece of paper or say it out loud from memory. Say the question in the exact way it appears on the paper.Shuffle the cards and start to focus on your question. Don’t get distracted by the details you are trying to unravel during your question reading but keep the question in mind. Cut the cards by grabbing some cards and placing them to the left. Grab more cards and drop them further to the left. Gather the cards together again. Use the spread you have chosen for your question reading to lay the cards out. Try to stay open as you view each card and consider its meaning. Now look at all the cards as one. How do you feel? Is there an impression you can form from what you see? You can make notes at this point describing your first impressions. Use a tarot guide to uncover the meaning of each card and its position in the spread. You can also try to uncover relationships between the different cards in the spread. Then try to create a story from the cards in front of you. This will guide you and provide the answers to the question you have asked. The story you create in your question reading should be as spontaneous as possible. Begin talking about the story out loud. Next write a summary statement which sums up the theme of the story you have uncovered. This is a synopsis of the problem, your role in it, the answers from your inner guide, possible outcomes and your feelings about this. This process forms the answers to your question reading. You can now write down the cards in the spread so you don’t forget them and shuffle the deck to clear any residual energy. |
